Things Parents Can Do To Help Children Be More Successful

1) Read to your child whenever possible.
2) Take your child to the library.
3) Make sure your child has a good night’s sleep.
4) Make sure your child has a good breakfast.
5) Help student with homework and review material with him/her.
6) Parents should try to stop in and see the teacher on a regular basis. Talking to the teacher shows your child that you are interested in school.
7) Set aside a certain amount of time daily (20-30 minutes) to discuss school, review the day or just talk one on one.
8) Keep informed of school and classroom activities.
9) Ask questions about school and encourage student response.
10) Have a special place and set time each night for your child to study or read.
11) Ask to see your child’s work: Do not assume everything is O.K.
12) Support the school in front of your child.
13) Make sure your child comes to school, unless he/she is ill.
14) Make sure your child arrives at school on time.
15) Don’t let T.V. viewing and video games get out of hand.
16) Plan at least one night a week as family night, do something as a family.
17) Make sure you come to parent/Teacher conferences.
18) Build your child’s self-esteem. Some ideas to follow:

Tell your child how nice he/she looks
 
B.
Let your child help you around the house. Do some projects together.
 
C.
Make sure you are aware of the feelings behind the words you use.
 
D.
Show your child how to do something new.
 
E.
Hug and kiss your child daily. They may say they are too old, but it does make them feel loved and wanted.
 
F.
Tell your child you love them daily.
 
G.
Smile at your child.
 
H.
Give your child opportunities to make choices.
19) Encourage your child to always do their best.
20) Help your child to set goals for the school year.
21) Visit the school as often as possible.
